As David Pendleton freely admits, “most of the leaders I know are pretty flawed. They’re terrific at some things and very bad at some others. When you look at what leaders have to do, I think it comes down to five things. First, I think leaders have to inspire people. Second is focusing people. Thirdly, you have to enable people. People need to know the sequence of things they need to do to make a worthwhile contribution. Fourth is to reinforce people for doing the right things; good things are recognised, and the things that are inappropriate are dealt with directly. Fifth is to help people learn.
