Teaching leadership to O2's top 100 executives

The client

O2 has enjoyed a period of great success and achievement since its de-merger from BT. Part of its success is attributed to a very clear sense of purpose and an almost relentless focus on results. In 2005 the business recognised that whilst these qualities had served them well, the organisation now needed to develop more sophisticated leadership skills, whilst not losing the qualities on which their success had been created.

Edgecumbe’s contribution

The firm had created a leader development programme for its top 100 executives. This programme was designed and delivered at Säid Business School, Oxford University. Working together with the Säid School, Edgecumbe created additional modules on leading teams and on coaching which were highly rated by the participants and nicely complemented the initial course design.

The outcome

O2 has been taken over by Telefonica of Spain but the management team’s confidence and contribution has been widely valued. Their distinctive style lives on as the new entity is developing.
